Our Mission

La Porte Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that delivers meals to those who are homebound and unable to prepare their own meals. This ensures that each person we serve can live safely and independently.  Contributions in any amount are always welcome and are needed to assist those clients who are unable to contribute for the service but desperately need the meals.
We're here to serve. We're here to provide.

I wouldn’t be able to do it without Meals on Wheels.

Our History

What began in 1975 as a fledgling service to provide meals to five people has spread to feed as many as 135 people five days a week. Through some local church surveys in 1974 and through the Health Planning  Committee it was determined that there was a need in the community. The program started with five clients, one route, and six volunteers. The first year approximately 8,500 meals were delivered. Since that day we have served over 925,000 meals. We cover several areas around La Porte such as Rolling Prairie, Mill Creek, Stillwell, Hanna, Hamlet, Kingsbury, Kingsford Heights, Door Village, Springville, and Union Mills. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday. We also offer to deliver a frozen meal on Friday to be eaten on the weekend.
